Ron Van Dusen Memorial Scholarship Fund

Ron Van Dusen coached in the Eugene area for more than 25 years. He had a heart for kids and was involved in many activities that benefited local youth including PTA, Special Olympics and school plays. He and his wife, Irene, coordinated student “drop-ins” and arranged for UO athletes to come and spend time with their students.

Ron began his coaching career with Kidsports in the EBAA era and later became a program coordinator for Kidsports in 1980. He served in that role for more than a decade and was instrumental in Kidsports’ expansion to offer youth programming in Springfield.

Mr. Van Dusen coached hundreds of boys and girls over the years including second generations of former players. He was competitive but always taught his players that how you play the game is more important than the outcome.

Ron passed away on June 30, 2015. His family has established a scholarship fund in his name that will provide playing opportunities for underprivileged youth in our area.
