Anita Pierce & Dorian Pine Memorial Scholarship

Anita Pierce embraced life with a thirst for discovery.  She loved traveling, theatre, word games, and adventuring with family and friends. A longtime local, she enjoyed all that Eugene has to offer and was a valued community member.

Her son Dorian Robert Pierce Pine was born June 26, 1983, in Eugene, Oregon. He grew through various preschools, spent kindergarten at EEI and then attended Edgewood Elementary and Roosevelt Middle School.

Dorian was a busy person, with many interests. Most consistent was his love of sports, particularly soccer. He began his soccer career in kindergarten, playing with AYSO, and then with Kidsports through elementary school. He was in Kidsports’ Classic League through fifth grade, when he and his team moved into club soccer, first with Southside and then with Lane AFC. He played hard and happily, for the sport and to be with friends.

Dorian had the opportunity to meet many fine young men with whom he became best friends through his involvement with sports. Those friendships lasted throughout the years, beyond the end of each sports season, and extended both on and off the playing field.

Anita supported and encouraged him throughout his life, cheering from the sidelines at every game. Dorian loved playing sports and being outdoors. His cheeky grin and bouncy energy accompanied him to every game and any adventure.

Dorian died too soon on April 15, 1997. A classmate said that Dorian was always giving to others. Anita created a scholarship in his name to make it possible for other kids to try out soccer, and perhaps to take it to heart and play it as he did.

Avid soccer fans and generous spirits, both Dorian and Anita were passionate about sharing their love of the game and making soccer available to all children.
