Flag Football Tournament

2007 Flag Football Tournament Coaches Guide

Conduct of Players and Others - Teams are reminded of the fact that good conduct and sportsmanship must be displayed at all times. The KIDSPORTS program can be very emotional and any outbursts by a coach or player can trigger the emotions of fans or spectators. We do not want and will not tolerate poor conduct and/or sportsmanship.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct - Players and coaches who throw equipment or parts of their uniforms, curse, or show unsportsmanlike conduct, etc., will be ejected from the game without warning and must leave the entire playing site. Disagreement, or questioning of judgment calls will not be tolerated. If you have a question regarding the enforcement or interpretation of an unusual play or rule, please conduct yourself in a courteous manner. Officials are not required to explain rules, and they will not allow the game to be held up for explanation.

Neither team shall commit any act, which, in the opinion of the referee, tends to make a travesty of the game.

Penalty - Unfair act - The referee enforces any penalty they consider equitable including the award of a score.

ANY COACH, PLAYER, OR SPECTATOR ejected from a game will be required to leave the entire site. A player will not be forced to leave unless accompanied by an adult.

REPORTING TIME - It is recommended that all teams report to the game site as a unit. Teams should arrive at the playing site no later than thirty minutes prior to the scheduled starting time.

PRE-GAME WARM UP - Plan to allow about 10-15 minutes for warm-ups. To keep the playing time on schedule, participating teams are asked to be on the field immediately following the award ceremonies of each championship game.

ANNOUNCER'S FORM - For the championship games, please fill out by PRINTING the requested information on the attached public address announcer's form and have it delivered to the KIDSPORTS staff person on the field at least 20 minutes prior to your team’s scheduled starting time. Please list players in numerical order.

PLAYER INTRODUCTIONS - The P.A. Announcer will introduce players as follows:

1. Prior to introductions, teams are asked to group together behind the goal posts on the end of the field where they warmed up and in numerical order as listed on the announcer's form.

2. The announcer will introduce each team member and then the coaches.

3. When a player is introduced by the P.A. Announcer, he/she is asked to run down the center of the field, and starting at the 40-yard line face toward the bleachers.

4. After all team members on both teams have been introduced, players should proceed to their assigned bench.

All spectatorsare to be seated in the stands ONLY. Please help us keep this under control, this is a 4J rule and KIDSPORTS must follow it if we want to use the stadium. ANY PERSON WHO DOES NOT ADHERE TO THE SEATING RULES IS SUBJECT TO EJECTION FROM THE STADIUM.

HOME/VISITOR - Home team for all games will be determined by a coin toss.

TEAM BENCH OCCUPANCY - Only team members in uniform, registered coaches, ONE team statistician, and TWO ball boys will be allowed to occupy the team bench area. Other persons, regardless of team affiliation, will be required to stay in the spectator seating area.

Tournament Awards - Immediately following each championship game, the champion and runner-up will each receive a team tournament plaque and individual awards. Please have your team return to their original end zone area to receive their awards.

PLAYING RULES AND REGULATIONS - All KIDSPORTS rules, regulations and policies will be enforced as printed in the current KIDSPORTS Modifications Book and the National Federation Rule Book. The following rules and regulations supersede all previously published.

TIMING RULES: The last two minutes of the game will be regulation stop clock if the score is within an eight-point difference.

Line-Up Cards - Line-up cards will be issued to all coaches by KIDSPORTS and will be available at the championship game site. Completed line-up cards with the players names and numbers will be given to the opposing coach and game referee five (5) minutes before the game begins. Coaches must indicate on the line-up card:

1. Players will be designated as playing either offense or defense for at least three DIFFERENT quarters.

2. Players who will be designated as "play runner." Play runners must play all four quarters.

Failure to provide the line-up cards as specified may result in a forfeit being awarded to the opposing team. If both teams fail to provide the line-up cards as specified, a double forfeit may be awarded and a loss recorded for both teams.

Tie Scores - Tie games during the playoffs and championship will be determined by the KIDSPORTS tiebreaker plan outlined in the coach’s handbook.
